If you know me, you know I always #hashtag that #iliveinazoo because my world is dictated by many things, the least of which is my own personal agenda. Life is hard. Brutal at times. And if you know me even better than that, you know that #humorkeepsmesane is always a tagline I use often. So sit back, buckle up, try to keep up and humor me with what I find to be so very not funny. God’s timing and His humor this time are lost on me. And that’s okay to say that out loud. I’m not going to stay angry so spare me the lectures or Bible verses. Right now, let me be mad. Just a tad. For a while. Because I think I have every right.
Thomas, who turns 20 on Sunday, has been called up for jury duty. For five days. For a trial. Looking into the dockets of both civil and criminal for AugCo, he may be selected for either a medical malpractice civil matter or criminal for a person just a bit older than him who has been charged with squeezing her baby and causing damage, nearly two years ago. Bless. Ya’ll know, Skinny. Can you just even?! Tried to plead the financial hardship as summer is when he makes his fall college money, but that was denied. So he will show up on Tuesday and hope that perhaps, finally, his lack of making eye contact will prove beneficial this time. They may see him as disinterested and not listening. Pretty much like every single teacher has since he was nine. Like I said, bless.
Most everyone now knows, that despite Emerson‘s constant head pain, she has been involved in two no fault wrecks these last six months. November and March. All vehicles totaled. Neither of her cars deployed airbags despite both the damage and the speed/impact. She just had major hip surgery and is staring into the face of a knee repair on that same leg once the grueling six month recovery process is completed. And in broad daylight, the driver who used her like olympic curling, knocking her 70′ from where she was fully stopped at a red light, was handcuffed and taken for a blood test where it was revealed she was on narcotics. Tomorrow, she has to appear in court. She’s never been to anything like this. But she is expected to stand right beside this Samantha Nicole Talley and explain how it has affected her life. Like the summer she was robbed of. The hiking, the amusement parks, the swimming. The fact that she will still be on crutches when fall classes start. And still doing therapy 3x a week and other appts over to UVA and figuring out how to plan for all that when signing her up for these classes.

God, give her the courage to speak the facts and get her point across because this woman has been granted grace already. The charges are vast. In both city of Waynesboro, that were transferred to civil court there and many in AugCo. To be specific, 9/8/17, she was charged with possession, speeding 51/35 and expired inspection. It was continued five times. Five. On the sixth date, last month actually 6/19, she finally went to court. Where I had to look up what the final disposition even meant. Nolle Prosequi
What makes my blood boil in all this, is that had she been stopped and/or punished way back closer to this offense date, the March accident to my kid may never have occurred. I don’t need legal lectures anymore than I need advice on not being angry. I fully grasp what happened here. My kid’s wreck was never mentioned, not important, not admissible, or whatever because she has not been convicted of such…yet. My concern is that tomorrow, standing in yet another court venue, that these charges will be allowed to be mentioned. That they’ve not been expunged or deemed inadmissible based on this nolle prosequi bs. Ya’ll know what bs is in latin, don’t ya?! That she can say “she’s done this before.” She’s just gotten by with it. Not learned a lesson. Favors aren’t helping her rehab into a better person. Something. Anything. I would have zero problem getting my jabs in, but my kid is now an adult and must stand up there alone and say what she’s comfortable with. Oh, this is one place being a hover mama would come in handy. Pray for strength and boldness. It is hard. I stood there beside my hit and run guy and was trembling. I hate she has to do this, but so want her to do it well. This woman needs to be off the roads.
Look her up for yourself. See the facts. The other charges. Worse, those outcomes.
Grateful for a good friend/roommate who is coming down from Maryland to hang out with Alexandria in Richmond tonight and tomorrow while she sits for her state boards tomorrow afternoon. Alexandria and I were supposed to girl trip this one together. Literally, made the plans the night before we found the subpoena taped the door the following morning. That’s where God’s humor is kicking me lately. But Amy is coming down and they will be fine. And, let’s face it, have way more fun together. But I do keep humming that HeeHaw song “if it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all” and proves I do live in that zoo I speak of. I’m a control freak that seems never to be in control of anything these days. And it sucks. Some days more than others. She has spent more hours in Starbucks than those on the payroll, so she is committed and prepared. But still…she is nervous but ready for it to just be over. I’m not even certain she will appreciate me telling the world this. Prayers for travel safety and calm nerves are why I am doing so.
And lastly, but not the least of our issues by any stretch, Alexandria and Thomas have to go to court in Bath County for a ticket he got while driving them both that caught them at the top of the mountain on ice, where cars were spinning out of control in the snow/ice that came out of no where because of that high elevation. A car pulled barely off the road. On the white line. At a lookout area where there is a flipping parking lot. He spun and clipped her car a bit. Had she not been so close, he’d have gained control and “walked it off” so to speak. But she left in an ambulance stating “severe whiplash” and had her car towed even though her back bumper was the issue and nothing at all was affecting her tires or engine. So because of her “injury” he was charged. So yeah. We are dealing with that as well. Praying that justice will be in his favor. Although when I read the first paragraph of this again, I know that is routinely never the case. So again, I say, bless.
